Hi,
I have been using a G 5 for a while and I have installed X11 and fink
commander
on it (mostly to get emacs).I have been using the unix side mostly for
programming in C++
(using the emacs as my editor) and matlab.
I recently got a powerbook laptop and installed the same things (no
matlab).
I would like to work remotely with this machine on my G5
However when I ssh -X to my G5 I can not open emacs or matlab.
I don't think it is a problem with the way I configured the laptop as
if I ssh -X to other more standard Unix machines I can open windows
from them.
here is what the G 5 tells me when I try -
after I log in it warns:
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11
forwarding.

Welcome to Darwin!
sprezzatura:~ uri$
then if I type emacs it gives me the non X version.
Or if I force it I get the following error message :
sprezzatura:~ uri$ emacs: standard input is not a tty
matlab simply does not react.
typing xterm gets the following result (instead of a window):
sprezzatura:~ uri$ emacs: standard input is not a tty
any ideas as to what is wrong
(and how I can fix it)
would be greatly appreciated
Uri
