Yeah that's something that's been annoying me lately too. I install
X11, with its xfree86 and everything and then when I go to install
stuff with Fink it wants to install its own version of Fink and it
won't install it because Apple's X11 and xfree86 are already there and
Questions like this are better asked on the Fink lists (where this one
has been answered hundreds of times, the list archives are full of the

it won't overwrite it. I finally get it going but the program I want
X11 installed for doesn't display correctly. Here's a screenshot:

Is this a precompiled binary? If yes, are you sure it was built for the
exact version of OSX, of X11, and of qt that you are running? Not built
for Jaguar, when you are running Panther, for example? If you start it
from an xterm, do you get error messages?

Also, when I set my .xinitrc file to look for the /sw/bin path it lags
X11s launch time, many times X11 doesn't even launch without me
deleting X11's prefs, where it asks if you want to use the current
.xinitrc or use the standard Unix environment.
Whiloe I don't understand your description of your problem, I am sure
you will find a solution for it in the Fink documentation on running X11.
