True, but instead of "needing" a right click, you must then to perform
the action "need" a mouse gesture, including pulling down a menu and
selecting an item.
Having multiple mouse buttons is demonstrably better in an objective
sense.

As I said, I think that depends a lot on the GUI used. In general Mac
OS X usage, I barely ever need a right click. I do think it's a pain
to use X11 with a 1 button clicking device though (because it requires
3 buttons to be usable). When right-clicking is necessary under Mac
OS X, the ctrl click is just as much an automatism as right clicking
in my case (and my other hand is on the keyboard anyway while
mousing).
