Hi everyone,
http://developer.apple.com/darwin/runningx11.html says that one can a
24-bit and an 8-bit (pseudocolor) X11 server on Mac OS X 10.3.7 in
parallel (i.e. Mac's own X11 server) by issuing
$ Xquartz -depth 8 -displayID 1
However, when I do that with X11 already running in truecolor as
display 0, I get an error message
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.
OsVendorFatalError
AbortDDX
Quitting XDarwin...
I don't understand why it complains about display 0 when I ask it to
run as diplay 1. Has anyone managed to get Mac's X11 running two
servers in parallel, with different display IDs?
I have searched the web and the archives of this list, and know I could
run a vnc server or install another X server in parallel to XDarwin,
but I want to find out whether the people who wrote the above
recommendation made an error, or whether I am missing something. One
previous post to this list also sounds like XDarwin could do the two
visuals in parallel in rootless mode (which I use), but gave no
specifics - this message is at
http://lists.apple.com/archives/x11-users/2004/Jan/msg00091.html -
Torrey T. Lions, if you are still reading this list, what's the secret?
BTW, upgrading to 10.3.8 didn't help, either.
Thanks.
