Jerry,
I have had good luck using OroborOSX as the window manager. Just
download and install it (http://oroborosx.sourceforge.net/). Start it
by double clicking the icon. It starts up X-11 by itself. Log in to
the Varian machine from the xterm window that appears. You may have to
choose Properties->auto-focus from the Windows menu when inside each
VNMR window to get the mouse to behave properly.
Others on this list have had success with Apple's X11:
A simpler solution exists but took some digging to find. In an xterm
or in the “Terminal” application window type:
defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_click_through –bool true
This command modifies the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.x11.plist
file and makes the window manager set mouse clicks to effect the
spectral window even it is not focused on by the VNMR application.
The spectral window then responds. Restart your X11 and you’re
clicking and dragging like you’re sitting directly at the console.
In addition if you like mouse focus to follow the mouse type:
defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_ffm –bool true
Either way you should be able to get the vnmr program to display over
on the MacOSX machine. OroborOSX just lets you make the needed changes
with a menu.
Let the list know how you fare.
Best,
Tim Gregg
