Aha! Well it would seem all is not lost... :)
There is no need to move anything out of the way after all. Will you
try something for me? Edit the ".profile" file you have found in your
home directory.
Add the following line to it underneath the one already there:
PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin/
Once you have done that, save the file and open up a new terminal.
Echo out the $PATH variable again... what do you see?
Try typing in a command you would expect to work with one of the
packages you installed via fink. Does it work?
