Two wonderful usability features that I've formally requested to be
added to X11 for Tiger are as follows below. I was hopeful to catch
someone involved in the development so that they could lobby these in
for Tiger release as they would be quite handy and make X11
functionality more "Mac OS X-like":
1) If you simply took the X11 app as it currently runs and turn it into
a menubar item so that all contents in the menubar (Preferences,
Applications, Edit, Window, Help) would all be items in the menubar
icon dropdown. Just simply use the stylized X logo and pop it in up by
the time and spotlight and you'd have much happier users. There is no
reason to have it otherwise as it is more a system service and server
than an application. Or at least give users the option to have this.
2) This would add quite a useful feature and make it more Mac OS X like
if you were to please add a systemwide hotkey to be assigned to switch
X11 back and forth between root/fullscreen view and rootless/window
mode. You could couple this with a quick transition in like Expose or
Dashboard. This would also have the handy side-effect of bringing X11
to the foreground rather than having to switch to it like a normal
application.
Thanks for any help!
