X11 not running on Tiger

Hello:

I am having trouble getting X11 to run on my freshly installed Tiger. I went trough the trouble of deleting every trace of the old installation I could find anywhere. But the installation from the disk image will not work. Error message: Newer software installed on the disk. So I must have missed a spot.

The problem probably originates from the fact that I am a former Windows guy and am easily lost if I have to do more than just click buttons.;-)

I am unable to find a good description on how to do this. Does anybody have any idea?
