Yes - if the CPU(s) are on the limit of their processing capabilities,

But NOT that much! With modern processors the overhead of encryption
should add a small percentage to the time: maybe 31 seconds instead of
30? NOT multiply your time by a factor of 20.
Have a look at the loading on both CPUs as your software runs.

That's possible, or broken configuration at the Mac end - or some
combination of options that's incompatible in some corner case. Also
possible is that the software tries to redraw to the server too often -
though the fact that it works with a Linux X11 server would suggest that
the fault lies with Apple's X or ssh configuration (with respect to Sun's.)
I suggest you keep investigating. Perhaps you could post the ssh
configuration for the Apple machine (where it doesn't work), the Linux
machine (where it does) and the Sun machine (the server where the app
runs) to the list and we could take a look for you?
