My dumb answer (in that I don't know if this is correct) is that there
must be a window manager config file. Look in your home directory
something usually beginning with a period (.) with wmrc, for example
I use OpenDesktop (on AIX) and the config file is .dtwmrc
Have you looked in the man pages for X11?
