I imagine this has come up a few times before, but there is always
new information (isn't there?), so I hope I don't get told to read

I have two questions: First, does anyone have a working Xorg build on
Mac OS X or Darwin? (and what about the X11.app patch for older Xorg,
can it be made to work on New Xorg?)
Second, what are apple's plans... wait, let me rephrase: Will Apple
be moving to Xorg... wait... shoot. I can't come up with a way to ask
that question without asking about what apple is *going* to do, which
of course they don't ever say...

Greetings,
Xorg from Darwin Ports runs OK on OS X 10.3.9 on a b&w G3.
No idear about Apple's xserver plans, but my guess would be they'll
be relieved
when all the QT, GTK, GNUstep, etc stuff is ported to OS X so they
don't need to offer it anymore...

Unfortunately, Xorg from fink is 6.9, I'm looking specifically at the
modularized edition: 7.0 (and 7.1 going forward, its only a few
months away).
Never will all QT, GTK, GNUstep, &c. apps be ported to Mac OS X for
many reasons, among them that most people using them won't be on Mac
OS X, that some are unmaintained, and that there will always be new
ones. I long for the day that Apple releases an option for the Mac OS
X windowserver to optionally speak X for networked clients. The X
protocol is a static target, it hasn't been changed in decades. Many
of its newer extensions are even stable and easy to target.
