Hi everyone,
I use an apple powerbook with 10.2.8 , XDarwin 1.1.1.1 and an external
USB apple keyboard. The keyboard misbehaves, though I am NOT aware of ANY
changes made to any configuration file. I do not believe in a hardware
error (see description below) though the keyboard got flooded with
soupy water yesterday.
The layout is German, and the misbehavior seems just to concern the
"German" keys, namely key 35 with should produce "ssharp". Instead, it
produces something like "bash history", but not previous commands as a
whole but just word by word (e.g. respecting empty spaces). The problem
just appears in X, not in aqua. And in X, just in the terminal itself and
in terminal programs like pico. But when I start emacs, the key works very
fine there. Even stranger, when I login to my computer at work through an
xterminal, the keyborad layout is suddenly working fine in the other
computers xterminal. Surprisingly xmodmap -pke ALWAYS shows the korrect
layout that should be used but in fact is not being used. The problem
concerns the internal keyboard in the same way. As a whole, the situation
makes me believe the problem is not a hardware error caused by the water.
Simply rebooting the System was no solution, even not with the external
keyboard detached, which is strange.
Does anyone have any idea what this error might be and what further
diagnostic tools except xmodmap could be useful here?
Thanks,
Joerg
