I have a problem using Apple's X11 on my MacBookPro. The exhibited
behavior is not a show-stopper but it is extremely annoying and makes
my daily work difficult. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions to
solve it.
From my machine I use ssh to connect to various linux machines using
ForwardX11Trusted. The initial window on the remote machine behaves
properly. Any X applications launched on the remote machine for
display back on the MBP works fine *except* the pointer is changed to
yellow, which is almost impossible to see on a white background. If
the default color (black) is used then the cursor becomes yellow. If
a new value for the X resource pointerColor is specified in
a .Xresources file or via the command-line it will affect the
original remote window but not any launched from it.
As a test I set the resources XTerm*cursorColor and
XTerm*pointerColor to red. In the initial xterm both resources were
used. If I launched a new xterm from the linux host the cursor was
red but the pointer was again yellow. The same thing happens if I
use "xterm -ms red -cr red".
When connecting to a Solaris or OS X machine the problem does not
exist. The problem also does not exist if I use a PowerBook instead
of the MBP as the display machine.
If it is not a configuration problem but an actual problem with
Apple's X11.app then I'll need to try to build my own. I notice
darwinports has packages for xorg and xfree86. If I build them will
they work similarly to X11.app?
Thanks,
Brad
