Hi!
I'm writing this on behalf of a friend. He has a French MacBook --
bought from France, French keyboard, French MacOS -- and I can't seem
to manage to install X11 on it (for OpenOffice). I was wondering if
anyone has any experience with that and can help us.
The install CDs contain Mac OS 10.4.6, but the computer self-updated
to 10.4.8. I tried to install X11 both with the "install MacOS" and
the "install bundled software" (the last one has a French name,
though). The former refuses to do an update, instead offering to back
up my system and reinstall, which I don't want to do (and I can't,
anyway, due to lack of space), and the former doesn't seem to offer
X11.
I noticed a snippet of text somewhere claiming that X11 is on the
third CD, and since we have only two CDs, I think there might not be
any X11 on them. But there is no download option for OS X 10.4, so I
don't know where to go from here. Any ideas?
There are only two CD's and the X11 package is on the first one: you
have to launch the "Optional Installs" package and select X11 in the
Applications list.
When a package refuses to install it is very often due to the fact that
there is a receipt of a previous install in the way. See in
/Library/Receipts (on a french localized system it is
/Bibliothèque/Receipts): on my machine I see :
X11SDK.pkg
X11Update2006.pkg
X11User.pkg
there. Just throw the receipts away and try again.
