I just installed IRAF on a new MacPro. The computer has a 23" Cinema

Xterm

fonts are readable. Ant ideas what the problem might be and if it is
fixable?
This is a known problem, for which I don't think a solution has
been implemented by Apple yet. From a conversation I had with
someone, it may have something to do with 8-bit support on certain
graphics card, but I can't be certain my recollection of the
underlying issue is correct. I filed a bug report back in October
(ID 4811417).
I'd encourage you to file another one (even if it gets tagged as
a duplicate). We (MacResearch.org) are going to Apple in April to
discuss issues related to science on the platform. Although it's
not only science related, I'll bring this up at that time as well
to the relevant people.
I'm pleased to report that this issue is finally fixed by the 10.4.9
update; it's mentioned near the bottom of http://docs.info.apple.com/
article.html?artnum=304821. Thank you for your patience.
