x11 windows don't come to foreground on focus

I use xterm for my terminal emulator, and when I have a window on top of it, and then click on xterm, the xterm window gains focus and I can type in it.  The problem is that it does not come to the foreground.

I have a workaround where I can use expose to gain focus to the window, and thats fine for me now, but it is still pretty annoying.

I don't know if this matters, but I did recompile xterm with --enable-256-colors --enable-wide-chars.  From the source available for the 10.5 release of X11 from www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource

It is the only X11 application that I'm currently using so I'm not sure if it happens with the others.
