resizing X11 windows when the lower right corner is off the screen

Anybody know how to resize an X11 window when the lower right corner has opened up off of the screen and the window is too tall to allow it to be repositioned so that the lower right corner can be brought onto the screen? Is there anyway to keep X11 from opening up to be too tall to allow resizing?
