G'Day Ben,
I had grazed across this issue as an off-topic side note in an earlier
post to the list, but you didn't take the bait :-). From past
experience with being on the OS X seed list and also being an X11 user
I have two observations:
1. X11 is very rarely updated once a new cat is released.
2. It can sometimes take an incredibly long time (many weeks) between
the time a bug is fixed and when it makes actually it into the next
10.x.y release.
Given that X11 in 10.5.0 is effectively unusable, can we get some kind
of inkling that all the X11 goodness pouring out of you has a chance
of making it into 10.5.1? Apple has just started seeding 10.5.1 betas
and I'm already marginally worried that anything submitted now for X11
may miss the final cut. That certainly happened with TCL/TK. However,
IF there is a chance then I'm guessing NOW is the time to start
worrying about bug fix priorities and I'd like to think the studio
audience here has an opportunity to help prioritize these. This, of
course, is a strong function of just how deep and insidious some of
these bugs are, but if you believe there is a short list of bite-sized
bug fixes that we could vote on for 10.5.1 then would it be possible
to post that list?
I realize this may have the potential to turn into something ugly
depending on how passionate people get. Anyway, given that your latest
X11 is in fairly good shape, I'd rather see you take a small break
from fixing bugs IF your time is required to ensure an updated X11 in
10.5.1. Maybe I've just got an arrogant and selfish viewpoint -
wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of that :-)
Mick
