I am guessing from this rather sophisticated discussion that my earlier question of suppressing xterm launching by default with the new X11 is not easily done.

It's easy, and several variants of it have been proposed on the list. A good one is to issue the command


defaults write org.x.X11_launcher app_to_run /usr/X11/bin/xlsclients

The variant with /usr/bin/true proposed by Jack is not good; it transforms /Applications/Utilities/X11.app into a no-op.
