One question though: When will these changes be available through the automatic Software Updates in Mac OS X?
Updating from a link found on a Wiki is fine for those of us geeky enough to follow the instructions, but not so good for the average user.

I wish all of Apple had this kind of approach to SW releases! As a user, it's exciting and encouraging to see new features added with precise details as to what has changed, plus Apple is getting free labor! Great job, and thank you.

A new binary release of Xquartz is available at http://www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin.

Issues addressed since 1.2a8:
* The X11 launcher (/Apps/Utils/X11.app) now supports commands with arguments, and should respect .Xresources -- credit to Jeremy Huddleston
* The "stuck modifier key" (shift, command, etc) bug has been fixed, again, and hopefully for good.
* Background updates have been enabled -- for example, this means that xeyes will continue to follow your mouse cursor even if you switch focus away from X11.app. (This was a regression from Tiger.)
* Initial attempt at fixing 8-bit mode, but I don't expect it to work (yet)
* Many build system fixes, courtest of Jeremy

Issues addressed since Leopard 10.5(.0) release:
* "Fake" mouse-buttons now work -- you may (once again) option-click in a window to paste (emulates middle mouse button)
* PseudoramiX extension now enabled by default; this allows you to drag windows between displays and prevents you from dragging them under the menu bar
* customized X11 Applications menu items with arguments now work
* Stuck modifier keys (shift, control, etc)
* Focus issues: X11 windows will now raise when you click on them, all X11 windows will raise when you switch to X11.app from the dock or with Cmd-Tab
* Spaces support: You can now drag X11 windows between spaces using the F8 (Expose) view. A known issue in Spaces prevents X11 windows from being dragged to another space via the edge of the screen.
* JIS (Japanese) keyboard layouts are now correctly supported.
* Deferred updates were disabled, causing a significant performance increase in (for example) Gimp and rdesktop
* Yellow / disappearing mouse cursor on Intel machines is fixed
* Xvfb, Xephyr and Xnest are now built
* Spurious "Are you sure you want to quit?" message fixed
* Display configuration changes are now honored -- X11 will detect an second display when you plug it in
* Rootless pixmap depth corruption was fixed, which should prevent (most) crashes in Gtk+ apps, particularly Wireshark.
* Oddly formatted xinitrc warning message has been corrected

Known issues: (this is only a partial list!)
* Xquartz can start using 100% cpu in some cases, generally when started by xauth (as a result of running ssh). Workaround: start X11 manually before using ssh if this problem occurs for you. Also seen with, for example, Matlab.
* 8-bit color mode doesn't work. Workaround: use Xephyr
* Fullscreen mode doesn't work. Workaround: use Xephyr
* XDMCP doesn't work (because you don't get an X11.app icon in your Dock if you run Xquartz by itself.) Workaround: use Xephyr :)
* Spaces support is still erratic, although most issues seen are also seen with other apps
* Rootless code still crashes occasionally (as it did in Tiger)
* Launching X11 from the Dock causes strange behavior. Workaround: Don't do that, then
* Gimp 2.4rc3 will crash if you click and drag. Fix: install libX11 from http://www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin
* Various X11 application .app bundles are now broken because they explicitly set $DISPLAY and/or try to launch X11 for you.
* Preferences are not correctly migrated from Tiger
* Font issues have been reported -- usually, this means that some fonts no longer render correctly (show up as boxes). Problems displaying fonts remotely have been reported, esp with Emacs.

If you have any more information on what may be causing any of these issues, please let me know. Enjoy, and thanks for the support.
