updating Xquartz

I followed the download and install instructions for 1.2.a9, and
restarted X11. But "about" still says 1.2a8. How do I get the update to
work?

Also, launching X11 by starting OpenOffice via RapidoStart always fails.
OpoenOffice always gets a timeout.
