I have no idea what to do with xev, but I definitely have an issue with the control key as well. I was first noticing that whatever was happening was associated with swapping spaces, but when he mentioned the control key it clicked as that is how I navigate between spaces. I can also report that sometimes if I press control again, or control and a character, it seems to stop being latched on. I can also report that no other application is having this problem. Furthermore I noticed earlier that I had a case when I got all caps without the capslock on, then I clicked on capslock (light on) and got all lower case ... kinda odd ... swapped spaces and back and it was fixed ...
