One more minor thing.  I know there should be no real threat, but
these two lines together still make me *extremely* nervous in a script
running as root:

cd /
rm -rf ${TMPDIR}

If that variable gets corrupted by a stray elementary particle...
I've changed "cd /" to "cd /tmp" in my copy.
