If you run Console.app you can find the output.
Kind of hard if you are ssh'ed in to the machine. Or is there some
terminal-based alias of Console.app that I don't know of?
% syslog ( all messages )
% syslog -C ( console messages )
Interesting, this syslog command. It doesn't understand the -C flag,
though. Must be some other OS.
And I have not yet understood what is the relation between the messages
it shows and the contents of /var/log/system.log and the (real or
virtual) console.log. What syslog shows is almost orthogonal to
everything I can display with Console.app.
Syslog, for example, shows me in detail the errors that appeared in the
latest softwareupdate because of programming errors of the packager, like
Software Update[4810] <Error>: Package Authoring Error:
installation-check results requires a message
Software Update[4810] <Error>: JavaScript error "Undefined value" while
running "__choice_su_visible"
Software Update[4810] <Error>: __choice_su_visible returned error:
Undefined value
I haven't seen this elsewhere.
OTOH, the X11.app startup messages that are shown by Console.app are not
shown by syslog.
