I am trying to setup X11 on my wife's iMac. I setup some PATH and other stuff in a ".bash_profile" file, but it doesn't seem to get read when a new xterm window is opened in X11. I tried putting it in ".profile" with the same poor results. Where can I put these custom statements so they'll be initialized every time I open an X11 session, XTerm within X11, Terminal, and everything else.
1. start X11 2. on the X11 menubar (top of screen) choose applications 3. choose customise 4. In terminal application menu you should see a line: Terminal xterm 5. click to edit and add -ls so it reads Terminal xterm -ls 6 click Done 7. that will make xterm read ~/.profile when it opens. 8. ~/.xinitrc is the file X11 itself reads when it starts so you can place values there
