Well you have some options:
1) Tunnel X11 over SSH
2) Use Xnest or Xephyr and have a completely nested X11 session from
the remote system
3) Revert back to Tiger's X11
4) Disable launchd support for X11, unset DISPLAY, have X use :0,
allow tcp connections to your DISPLAY, ssh to the remote system and
set DISPLAY=my-x-server-machines-ip:0 ... this isn't as secure, but
it's what happens with xdmcp, so I'm guessing you don't care about the
security in your case.
Hope that helps...

XDMCP support in Leopard is broken. This is a sad fact. Xephyr is
one way to work around the problem, as you (and others have noted) --
but it is not a full solution.
Is it a requirement that you use XDMCP? Most organizations have
switched to using ssh to connect to a remote machine, and then
launching applications through the ssh tunnel.

Those are by design for Xephyr and Xnest. Those run an X-server
within a window on another X server. If you don't want that, then
just run X11.app and start your applications within there.
Am I missing something here?

Here is a note from a Hiflex user...
The problem is that you get
1. A Xephyr desktop that hides your Mac-desktop
2. The different X11-applications/windows are not moveable and you
are not
able to switch between them. The upper window is the only one you
can
access.
Greetings
Christer
