Sorry, wrong word choice - sourced vs. use.

Anyway, yes, it is a fresh install of OSXS patched to 10.5.1,
so I haven't installed the latest patched version you have
available.

I'll try it and see what happens.

What's weird is, on initial launch from /A/U/X11.app, the PATH is set to /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin -
if it truly sourced /etc/paths

Nothing sources /etc/paths. path_helper *uses* it. /etc/profile is sourced.


What version of /A/U/X11.app are you using? If you are using the version shipped with leopard, that's the problem. See http:// www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin for info on how to update it.
