I second this one!! I don't run any X11 application on the Mac itself
- none of the CAD tools I use have been compiled to run on the Mac
because those big corporations don't even see the Mac platform on
their radar. Every X11 application I use is run on some remote
platform and displayed back onto my dual monitor Mac configuration. If
not for that ability there would be no Macs in the house. X11 is an
Apple sales enabler.

It seems to me (and I freely admit I could be wrong), that the
essential purpose of bundling X11 with OS X is to provide
compatibility for non-Apple applications, typically applications
which have been developed for Linux or BSD or Solaris and then
ported to OS X.
You seem to forget what is the biggie for me at least: Running X11
applications on remote machines. X11 is is a networking window
system, and as far as I can tell it has no real competition in that
niche. So it's not going away anytime soon. If I could no longer
have X11 on the Mac, I'd ditch all my Macs without a moment's
hesitation (but plenty of regret) and go back to plain ol' FreeBSD
(which is still what I have on my desktop at work, BTW).
