I don't see why you're not able to do this. I'm doing this right
now. ssh into the remote machine and run the remote application. If
you're not able to, then you probably have a problem with ssh
tunneling your X11 display. Check out the FAQ ( http://www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin_FAQ
) for info on fixing that.
If you need insecure tcp/ip connection instead of ssh tunneling, then
read my post from yesterday.

It seems to me (and I freely admit I could be wrong), that the
essential purpose of bundling X11 with OS X is to provide
compatibility for non-Apple applications, typically applications
which have been developed for Linux or BSD or Solaris and then
ported to OS X.
You seem to forget what is the biggie for me at least: Running X11
applications on remote machines. X11 is is a networking window
system, and as far as I can tell it has no real competition in that
niche. So it's not going away anytime soon. If I could no longer
have X11 on the Mac, I'd ditch all my Macs without a moment's
hesitation (but plenty of regret) and go back to plain ol' FreeBSD
(which is still what I have on my desktop at work, BTW).
