No, that does not apply to running Tiger X11 under Leopard - that
works just fine on all Leopard machines. The issue I was referring to
was more a device driver / firmware issue.

Does that apply to running Tiger's X11 under Leopard as well? Will
that possibly not work on some of the newer machines?

With Tiger I get stable X11, plus fink support with X11emacs21

What am I overlooking or don't understand?
You'll need to pick the right platform. Some of Apple's Intel
machines, like the latest MacPro laptops, don't actually run Tiger
due
to missing drivers and such. In other words, if it shipped from the
factory with Leopard, downgrading may not be an option. If you get
an
early Intel machine that ran Tiger/x86 when it shipped, of course,
then no problem. For that reason alone, as well as cost, you might
want to get a used one.
