Thank you *so* much! Indeed, there is a driver/firmware issue.
As I now understand it, machines which shipped with Leopard may
have different devices and use different drivers/firmware than
came with Tiger. Makes sense.
So I ordered an Apple refurbed 2.16 Macbook for the interim,
because my research indicated that was the last machine to ship
with Tiger ... hmmm, hope that's right. Plus of course I hadda
dig up a copy of Tiger.
