Your /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.x.privileged_startx.plist is the
old one from pre-2.2.0. The new one looks for privileged_startx in the
directory /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/. What does your
org.x.privileged_startx.plist refer to?
Installing privileged_startx from the 2.2.0_rc4 package I had on hand
did the trick.
Wrong trick. You didn't forget to log out and in again after the
installation, did you?
