IIRC, Matlab assumes (this is a bug) that DISPLAY is :0. Therefore,
you should be able to use the latest releases from
xquartz.macosforge.org with as much success as the older releases for
Matlab. This is a bug in Matlab that causes it to break on any Leopard
X11 (you may see this as "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't,
rebooting makes it work"... but that is a side effect of the real bug,
their assumption of DISPLAY=:0).
I'd recommend trying 2.2.3 or waiting for 2.3.1 (2.3.0 had some input
related issues reported after it was released. These are fixed in the
latest betas of 2.3.1 and probably a rc will be released for it
shortly).

I am currently using Matlab version 7.6+ (R2008A) and as a Matlab
user I am also using the Apple X11 which is version 2.1.1 (xorg-
server 1.3.0). However, I also want to use gimp and I understand
that gimp is not compatible with this version of X11. I could load
the gimp compatible version but then I am not sure if that is going
to work with Matlab.
Therefore, can anyone help. If you use Matlab and gimp on the same
platform I would be happy to hear your comments. Or, if you know of
any possible problems I might run into by loading the latest gimp
compatible X11.
My platform is a MacBookPro (Intel) with 2 GB RAM and the ultimate
latest version of Leopard.
Thanks,
