Is X11.app actually the foreground OSX application or is it still
Terminal.app?

I had installed X11-2.3.2_rc1.dmg, and then I upgraded my hard drive.
In the process, I did the following steps:
1) Made a time machine backup
2) installed the new hard drive / installed leopard 10.5.4 (the
version on my discs)
3) restored from time machine
4) updated to leopard 10.5.5, installed Xcode.
5) X11 was broken, so I installed X11-2.3.2_rc2.dmg (the latest on
that day)
6) X11 is still broken, so I tried installing X11-2.3.2_rc3.dmg today.
No effect, still broken.
I'd like to "fix" X11. What should I do?
"broken" in my case means when I run my saved alias of
"/usr/X11R6/bin/Xquartz -query 10.1.2.59 -once" from Terminal.app I
get this behaviour:
a) The custom X11 logo bounces.
b) the login window appears
c) I can't focus the X11 or the login window by any means I've tried.
d) I have to force-quite X11, which then relaunches itself without
starting up the XDMCP connection or xterm, but other than that it
seems normal (so I just quit it normally)
e) I get the following output on the terminal:
Xquartz: X11.app = /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11
Xquartz: Starting X server:
/Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11 --listenonly

[at this point I Ctrl-C and then force-quit X11]
