It should be exported. In fact, I just made a bunch of sub-shells

what's going on and give me a simplified test-case that exhibits
this "needs-export" issue?
Hello Jeremy,
We start the binary from a shell script that then runs Grass from a
Terminal. You can download (for free) our Grass application from:
<http://openosx.com/grass/freedownload.html>
And the Leopard update from:
<http://OpenOSX.com/support>
The update modifies our "OpenOSX_Grass_Wrapper.command" shell script
which current sets DISPLAY to :0 (going to fix it soon). To locate
the shell script, locate your OpenOSX Grass application, control-
click on the application, choose "Reveal Package Contents". Then open
the "Contents" folder, the "Resources" folder, the "OpenosxGrass"
folder, the "bin" folder, locate the "OpenOSX_Grass_Wrapper.command"
file.
You can try and remove the DISPLAY command to see what happens.
(feel free to contact me off list)
