Just to add my 2 cents, I have this problem as well. I won't be able to
verify the "hourly" claim until I return home from a conference on
Wednesday, though.

Interesting --- which earlier versions are you thinking of? I've been
using Apple's stock X11 in OSX 10.4 and earlier releases for years,
and never saw this before. I just updated to Leopard about two weeks ago,
and started using the 2.1.3 build as soon as I realized how badly busted
the stock install was :-(. I've been seeing the focus drops since then.
I never noticed it was hourly. Huh.
It's only in the past day or so that I've become confident of that.
I haven't put a stopwatch to it, but I'd say the repeat interval is
an hour plus or minus at most ten seconds. It's not top-of-the-minute
or top-of-the-hour, either, so I'm thinking it's a timeout somewhere
measured from some program's wakeup time. I can't figure out which
program though.
Any suggestions for debugging this? I was considering ktrace'ing X11
but I'm not sure that would show anything that I could interpret.
