Hi, I've been seeing some problems with the 2.1.3 version of X11/x.org
server in using multipe monitors.
I've filed a bug about this, but since I didn't find anyone else
mentioning this on the list or in trac, I wanted to check on the list
to see if I'm doing something wrong.
I run X11 on my powerbook, and when I plug in a higher res external
monitor while X11 is running with some apps already launched, X11 apps
can't make use of the additional screen area. They work fine on the
secondary screen as long as I keep them within an 'active area' the
same dimensions as the main screen, anchored to the top left.
Outside that area, mouse clicks aren't caught. Some programs don't
seem to get them at all, and others (emacs *) gets them, but the
location is wrong - I'll click on the bottom of the window and emacs
thinks the event occurs inside the window, along the border of the
'active area'.
And, although I can drag windows so that they'll draw below the active
area, I can't drag window title bars outside the area.
There is a workaround - Quitting and restarting X11 after plugging in
the new monitor allows X11 programs to use the whole screen, but of
course I'd prefer to avoid that.
I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this.
Thanks,
-mike
