Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, when this script is run and an xterm
window opens, I cannot close it! Clicking the window's close button
does absolutely nothing...

I can confirm this, even without perl script. Simply running the command

xterm -e login -pf $USER

opens an xterm with disabled close button. Typing exit or Ctrl-d at the prompt closes it, but neither the red button not Cmd-W nor the Window->Close Window menu entry have any effect.

Yet if I get rid of the -fp then I can
close the window-- but that requires me to enter my password with each
window..

Doesn't work for me either; even without -f or -pf the close button is not working.
