Then I tried my remote emacs session. I can type, copy & paste via the middle mouse button.. everything seems fine. Then I hit the menu Options (between Edit and Buffers) and it kills X again. On the server I see:

Connection lost to X server `localhost:11.0'

Sounds like the X server is crashing. When you do this, do you get a new crash log for X11 or Xquartz or similar? (You can browse crash logs with /Applications/Utilities/Console.app)

What OS and emacs version are you using for the remote emacs session?
