I noticed something similar this morning, involving an obscure X app
called zwgc (a client for a ~20 year old instant messaging app used
at MIT and a few other places). zwgc pops up a new window for each
new message, in a location determined by metadata in the message
and your .XResources. If I start X, connect a second monitor that's
configured in the displays system pref to be contiguous with the first
and to the right, and run zwgc, windowgrams whose XResource settings
tell them to appear at, e.g., -1-20 will in fact appear in the lower
right of the second monitor. But I will not be able to do anything
with them. (Normally clicking on a zwgc windowgram dismissis it;
shift-click lets you select.) If I disconnect the second monitor,
the windowgrams all reappear in the redrawn desktop in upper left
of the remaining screen --- and now respond to mouse clicks.
If I attach the second monitor _before_ starting X, everything
works as expected, even if I then disconnect and reconnect the
second monitor.
