I just did cmd-shift-4 and selected the region around my urxvt terminal

Not that Andrea used the spacebar to take a snapshot of the window, not select a region around the window. Big difference.

and it looked fine. Do you see this with applications other than gnuplot? Is gnuplot using OpenGL to render or 2D drawing?

Hello,
I'm using Xquartz 2.2.1 and octave 3.01 with gnuplot support. When plotting a function X11 starts and the function is drawn, however I noticed that if I grab screenshot of single window (command-4 then spacebar) I got just window's contours.
I'm attaching an image to this mail to show it, to fully understand open it with Preview rather than seeing it in Mail.

Is this a Xquartz issue?

I think so. The same thing happens, for example, if you switch from xterm to a tektronix window: Start xterm, press alt-ctl-click, choose "Switch to Tek mode".

If you take a snapshot of the Tek window (either with cmd-shift-4 + spacebar or with Grab.app), the contents of the window are not copied. If you grab a selection around the window or take a snapshot of the whole screen, the contents are there.
