Is there any particular reason why you need XDMCP and can't just use
ssh with X11 forwarding? If you really need the remote box's window
manager, etc... then Xephyr or Xnest are probably your best bets.
Make sure you have the latest X11 installed (2.2.1 from http://xquartz.macosforge.org
).
I'd advise against using X -query and stick to Xnest or Xephyr.
As far as fonts go, I *think* that Xephyr just forwards font queries
to the parent X11 server, so if you use 2.2.1, you should have access
to all the fonts on your system via the server-side fonts. fontconfig
fonts are a whole other matter, and setting up fontconfig on AIX is
beyond the scope of this mailing list, but should hopefully be setup
for you out of the box.
Exceed hummingbird is just an X11 server... which is what X11.app is.
I'd just startup X11.app, ssh to your other box, then run the
application over ssh.

Hello,
I do not know if I am on the right list, so if not just tell me.
I am trying to remote login from my Mac to an AIX box (AIX 5.3) on a
private network (no security problem).
I tried some easy way like X -query aix_ip_address or Xnest. It runs
fine but I miss some fonts (I tried to setup the font server on the
AIX box but I am not an unix specialist, so I do not know if I did
it correctly). Also when trying to run app on the AIX box I have lot
of "Bad colormap parameter" error and also the "XInputExtension is
missing" message. So I am a little bit in a dead end this way.
Does anyone know / have an idea if I can remote connect to the AIX
from the Mac using any kind of software that would allow me to do
that easily (I am thinking as some Mac alternative to software like
Exceed hummingbird) ?
Thanks
Marc
