In Leopard, xkb is activated by default.

Eh... what do you mean by this exactly?

I thought this might mean the xkb
works, but it doesn't, at least for me. When I use the same xsetkbmap command
that I use on all my other X boxen, I get a completely unusable keyboard. No
key produces its actuall chracter, and many beep as if meta or control is being
pressed. Any ideas what's going on and/or how to fix it? The command I use is

setxkbmap -layout "us,il" -variant ",lyx" -option "grp:shift_toggle,grp:switch,grp_led:scroll"

Yes, because that's ... well... wrong... X11 is querying quartz for the keyboard... not the hardware itself. So OSX is "in between" which is throwing a wrench into things... I don't have a clean solution for this, and I don't expect to for a while...
