I somehow missed the assertion that Tiger's X11 also doesn't do 3D the way he wants, so clearly that's not going to be an option. One still might be forgiven for wondering how he's managing to survive on Tiger then, however, since he only says he can't use Leopard, not that all versions of MacOSX are unusable.

Not exactly - Tiger's X11 on Tiger works very well in stereo, but Tiger's X11 on Leopard shows erroneous behavior in stereo and is unusable for this purpose (at least in my hands). I'm using Leopard on my MBP and really would love to switch to Leopard on my Mac Pro, too, if X11 stereo would be working ... Hmmm. In any case, given the somewhat rocky state of 3D support for X11 (stereo and otherwise) on MacOSX since day one, I'm not going to challenge this assertion and simply end with an appeal:
Is there really no one out there who either is or even just knows someone capable of hacking on X11 servers at this level? Apple is more than willing to try and address this entire area of suboptimal performance/functionality, but we have so many projects going at once right now that we just don't have the personnel resources and having money to throw at the problem hardly helps if you can't find anyone to (productively!) throw it at! C'mon guys and girls, I know you're out there somewhere!
Let's hope the best!
Dirk.
