In the early days of Apple actually releasing an X11 package for OS X, I messed around with fullscreen alternate window managers (kde, gnome, windowmaker, etc.) since I was coming from Linux land. But now I have enough native UI applications I run that I need to interact with, so I just use quartz-wm.
As a matter of fact, 99% of my X11 use is just xterms. :)

Just for the sake of curiosity:
what window manager do you use in Xquartz?
I mostly use Gimp in Xquartz and had better feeling with metacity than quartz-wm but it had some issues in Exposé window switching so I dropped it in favor of quartz-wm, but I'm curious what other people use.
By the way is there a window manager that autoarrange windows so they don't overlay?
