Dear Jeremy:
When I installed IDL 7 on the version of X11 that came with 10.5.5,
many of IDL's symbolic links would not work. I then upgraded X11 to
XQuartz 2.3.1, and changed IDL-7's defaults to point to the IDL6.4.1
installation to get IDL704 working again. I also had to alter one of
the IDL704 AppleScripts. I would hope that those problems were
intrinsic to IDL704, and the ittvis folks now know about them, but I'd
hate to break it again right now, as I have some long analysis jobs to
run before the holiday.

Folks, I have the XQuartz 2.3.2_rcl installer, but in view of all
the posts of problems with this version, I am hesitant to install
it for fear that it will break IDL 7.04 on my PPC G5, which is
stable with XQuartz 2.3.1. Has anyone tried this new version of X11
on a PPC with IDL
7.04?
What problems are you concerned about? I'd say there are relatively
few problems in rc1. The only reported regression over 2.3.1 was a
geometry placement bug in quartz-wm which is already fixed.
