I originally sent this to the original poster only, but am sending again
to the list as my experiences differ from other posters. I have tried
Logitech mice, but didn't find the driver as friendly as Kensington. I
haven't tried any of the separate USB driver packages though.

I use Kensington mice on all the Macs in my lab, wired USB, two button
plus scroll wheel which doubles as middle button. I think they are called
'mouse-in-a-box optical'. The reason I like Kensington is their driver
software 'Mouseworks'. This allows you to program 'chording', multiple
button presses, as well as the usual. So I have left button as a normal
click, middle as option-click, right as apple-click, and left+right as
control-click.
One note of caution is that I tried two new mice recently that were not
recognized by MouseWorks, so there may be some issues with current
production.
For a pure USB optical three-button mouse, there is one available from
HP, model DY651A. I bought this to test with my other Unix systems, but
haven't tried it under Linuix yet. My SGIs couldn't drive it.
Regards,
Phil.
