help: missing title bars

My xterms open without titlebars and off the top of the screen. I've seen this happen occasionally in the past, but now it is consistent. Is there a way that I can fix this?

XQuartz 2.3.1(xorg-server 1.4.2-apple17)

I really need to fix this so I can use X11 again.
