well first of all : why dont you go to
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki
and download the current version of X11, and see if that works?

For several years, I have been using X11 to start MatLab on a
PowerMac G5; all worked well up thru Tiger, Panther and the initial
Leopard installation with X11 2.1.1 (which is what comes on the
Leopard install disk), but I cannot get X11 to start after that
(actually, I am not sure at which X11 update it stopped working
because I haven't started MatLab for a while, but I know that X11
2.1.6 will not start). I tried re-installing Leopard from the
install disks, so I know that X11 2.1.1 does work, but when I ran
the 10.5.8 update, it stopped working. When I start the X11.app, it
blinks for a bit and then goes away without ever stating a
window... From a terminal window, I attempted to start it manually
and get the following:
Xquartz: X11.app = /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11
Xquartz: Starting X server: /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/
MacOS/X11 --listenonly
Xquartz: bootstrap_look_up(): Unknown service name
but of course it does not start...
I have two questions:
1) does anyone have any ideas about how to fix or work-around this
problem?
2) alternatively, is there a way to revert back to an earlier
version of X11?
Thanks!
