I have the same model MacBook, with OS X 10.5.6 and XQuartz 2.3.2.1.
I followed the suggestion in the FAQ and entered
defaults write org.x.X11 dpi -int 112
at a Terminal.app prompt. The text in X11 apps like GnuBg, Inkscape
and Gimp-2.6.4 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimponosx/
seem fine to me. They seemed too small before I modified that dpi
setting.
That's strange. If I use the same command on my MacBook for setting
DPI to 112, here is what I get in Gimp 2.6.4 and Inkscape 0.46:

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/417/inkscapefontsqg9.png
You can see that menu font size is huge, in Gimp the rightmost menus
will hardly fit in a smaller image window, and the height of some
menus almost reaches full screen. And, although the tool settings
panel appears to have fonts of a nice size, its popup menus (like
brush mode selection) have the same huge font size as the menus, which
is ugly.
In Inkscape, instead, hardly any help text will completely fit in the
status bar, given that a huge size is used again in there.
Setting DPI to 75 brings things back to an usable state, even though
the font size in the tool settings panel appears to be a bit small.
Am I the only one experiencing this?
